Empire
The Empire Company, Inc. was founded in 1946 as a small regional distributor of building materials which was serviced from a single location. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, Empire’s focus began to shift from commodity construction products to millwork. In 1991, a new leadership team led by Tom H. Highley was put into place at Empire and provided a new vision to expand its distribution roots beyond the Midwest. Since that time, Empire has grown into one of the largest millwork distribution and manufacturing companies in the United States. Tenon acquired the initial 33% of Empire in 1999 and a further 33% in 2003. In 2005, Tenon purchased the remaining 33% ownership of Empire. The original management team has stayed on with the business.
